Dear Folks,
One of the persons on this group Email I call Power Politics is Gus Wilhelmy. Gus along with one other person in our group, Bernie Curran, were the co-creators of SAFER Foundation. I had the privilege of working for these two guys in the 1970s in which, as one of their managers, I for the first time truly enjoyed management because our "product" was not a well-manufactured thing but a human being, an ex-offender, who needs some help in adjusting to social life. SAFER is now a force in many cities. Gus lays out here the POWER OF TRUE FACTS. Have you ever tried to read an evangelical or neo-conservative on any issue? I challenge anyone to find any facts or logic in these writings. Today, Doonesbury, the political cartoon, has a guy seeking from an organization (like FACTCHECK in real life) that -- in this story, "produces any fact that you want." The guy wants proof that Obama's stimulus plan produced no jobs. The Fact fellow says, "that could be tricky sir. the Government Budget Office reported the stimulus created up to 3.3 million new jobs." So in effect, he is saying he can't help the guy. The latter answers, "But it's only for Fox News." The answer: "Oh, you should have said so sir. I'll get it right off to you." See the strip here.
A 9th Feb 2012 Chicago Tribune's editorial praises the value of Super Packs. They would not have dared to write such an editorial, except for the fact that Obama now has decided to use his Super Pack. My only hope is that this one will tell the truth, THE POWER OF TRUTH. Last night, on MSNBC's Ed Schulz, two people --both Democrats, on being Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor, I believe under Clinton, argued against Obama's decision in principle, but also acknowledged that it may be ---practically speaking --necessary. He added: I want Obama to declare that if reelected he will do everything in his POWER to eliminate such a practice, because we will have passed legislation that all national elections will be paid for by the government, as in most civilized countries, so no ads devoted to "selling candidates" with lies and hate slogans and charges will be allowed. The Chicago Trib editorial says that these Super Packs are valuable for the country because they help "educate" (!!!!) our citizens. Wow, how well they educate. The Super Packs, with their Super Ads put into many state offices governors and legislators who are seeking to eliminate unions and are doing everything to put hurdles in the way of ordinary citizens (who vote Dem) such as Blacks, Latinoes, and students the ability to vote, which is at the core of our democratic way.
ONE BIG CONCERN: Harry Reid and other Demo Senators have allowed a bill to passed that will limit workers in aviation to unionize. We all need to write Reid in this regard. Now read Gus below.
Sincerely, John G

John,
Here are the facts, for example, that I give to my Republican friends on Romney:
1) R.Perry said Romney isn't a venture-capitalist; he's merely a
vulture-capitalist
2) Gingrich said he's a corporate raider whose greed cost thousands of
middle-class people their jobs; Gingrich adds that Romney's work at
Bain was nothing more than "looting" struggling companies...or he
stated some feel Romney is a capitalistic cannibal
3) Gingrich also called Romney "blatantly dishonest" on Fox News at
8:30 pm CST on February 4 after Nevada Caucuses...he was referring to
the Superpac Ads on TV
4) Santorum stated Romney could never beat Obama, because
"Obamacare" is merely federalized "Romney Care" from Massachusetts
5) N.Y. Times said: Bain did not gain 100,000 jobs; 25% of companies
Bain took over went bankrupt with thousands of workers sent packing
6) Ezra Klein of Washington Post said, Romney falsely portrays Bain's
goal as "job creation" when it was "wealth creation" for a few one
percenters
7) "The Week" magazine states in its January 20th edition Romney has
very little "business" experience. He co-founded a private equity
firm that never sold a product or a service. Bain was "leveraged"
capitalism that cost so many Americans their jobs while enriching
a few wealthy executives and investors according to the magazine.
John, I know that this is a quasi-negative approach to Romney... but that's where the voting public are. They want to titillate over the weaknesses. I can't help that.
Gus
